Phone boxes to remain after councillors’ representations

The phone boxes on Flanderwell Lane and Sycamore Avenue that had been threatened by the BT review

We are pleased to be able to confirm that the two local telephone boxes that had been threatened with closure by BT will remain in use after your local councillors made representations on the issue.

BT’s own figures showed that the boxes were used more than 200 times last year, making them amongst the more used of the 33 phone boxes threatened with closure across the borough.

By law, the council must undertake consultation on any closures and can veto proposals where these are not seen to be in the interests of the local community. Following the representations that we made earlier this year, council officers agreed with our view that the boxes on Flanderwell Lane and Sycamore Avenue were still of value to the community and so should remain in use.
