Following comments from residents, the council has been reviewing proposals agreed last year to develop a number of sites within our area with homes that would be available to those on the council’s housing waiting list.
Tomorrow, the council’s cabinet will be asked to agree a revised proposal, which will mean that much needed bungalows are likely to be developed rather than the original mixture of houses and bungalows. The site at Willow Close is no longer proposed for development, instead replaced by two sites on Chestnut Close.
The sites are still expected to be developed by the Arches housing association, but are likely to be built using traditional building methods rather than the “modular” or “modern methods of construction” originally intended.
The council is also considering whether some of the properties could be specifically built for those with disabilities or other specialist needs.
In summary the changes outlined are:
Site | Original proposal | Current proposal |
Hornbeam Road (adj. number 1) | 3 houses | 2 bungalows |
Greenwood Crescent (adj. number 59) | 2 houses | 2 bungalows |
Craig Walk (opposite numbers 2 and 4) | 4 houses | 2 bungalows |
Chestnut Close (adj. flats 7 and 9) | (Not included) | 2 bungalows |
Chestnut Close (opposite flats 30 and 32) | (Not included) | 2 bungalows |
Willow Close | 5 houses | (Site unsuitable) |
Total | 14 houses | 10 bungalows |
Each of the proposals will still be subject to the usual planning application process before any building works are undertaken.
