Flanderwell play park opening

The redevelopment of the play area on the Markfield Drive estate has been one of our longer term projects over the last couple of years.

We wanted to ensure that residents and especially children had the chance to comment on the plans, and we’re really pleased that the park includes artwork produced by pupils from Flanderwell Primary, and will also include rules designed by Wickersley School and Sports College students. In response to concerns we heard from residents we have been able to secure CCTV on the site.

Recently students joined council staff and Cllr Hoddinott to plant wild flowers which will hopefully blossom later in the year.

Now that all the work is complete, on Wednesday 30th of May we’ll be officially opening the park and everyone is welcome to come along from 12 noon.

There’ll be a bouncy castle and entertainment for children, plus information from the council’s Early Help and Housing services, Barnardo’s and Know the Score drugs and substance advice.

We’ll look forward to seeing you there!
