Will you sign our petition to sort out Aldi’s Bawtry Road site?

Yesterday we were out collecting signatures in Bramley village, calling on Aldi to secure the site of the former Lighting Bug shop. Aldi bought the site with a view to developing it and secured planning permission over a year ago. We had hoped that the new store would be opening this summer and the plans were widely welcomed in the community.

Since then however the site has stood abandoned, with security fencing repeatedly being pushed over, leaving the buildings vulnerable to vandalism.

Aldi tell us that they remain committed to developing the new store, but that – due to the pressures of their rapidly expanding business – work is not expected to be completed until sometime next year.

We’re urging Aldi to “get on with it!” – demolishing the existing buildings and securing the site as soon as possible, and delivering the new store that residents want to see.
