Number 4 bus route saved!

Following our campaign which started last November, we were delighted to see it confirmed yesterday that Powell’s will take over the running of the number 4 bus route from July 21st – saving it from the axe.

New bus routes had been expected to come into effect from April, but were delayed because of the strong public response.

By working with our MP, John Healey, and SYPTE, we are pleased that the route which connects Bramley / Flanderwell / Sunnyside to Dalton and Asda has been saved.

Whilst the number 3 service is be scrapped from the end of July, residents living in the Flanderwell Lane / Fleming Way / Markfield Drive areas will benefit from the re-routing of the number 10, which will mean three buses an hour during the day to town via the hospital, rather than the current one. Residents who attended our meeting last year also said that they would like better buses to Maltby – and the number 10 will serve this route every 20 minutes during the day.

Residents living along Brook Lane and Moor Lane South, who could have lost their bus service altogether, will retain the hourly number 4 during the day. There will be more buses to the centre of Bramley, and we hope that a proposed slight change to the route of the number 4 along Belvedere Parade will improve access in the Bramley area. At the moment, we don’t have any further details of that slight alteration.

The number 37 route via Thrybergh will be extended so as to serve Ravenfield Common.

Other bus routes in our area will be unaffected, with the proposed changes to some less frequent services withdrawn.

At the same time, SYPTE have announced some new Rotherham bus-only season tickets, which will reduce the price for people who currently have to purchase Rotherham Travelmaster tickets but who don’t use the train. You can find details of these here.
